SHADE CHAMP
Deschampsia / Tufted Hairgrass

An exceptionally shade tolerant grass with
excellent cold hardiness. Shade Champ also features great
adaptability to shaded, wet areas. Shade Champ's durability
makes it an idea component for sports mixtures in cold Northern
regions where perennial ryegrass can't persist.

Native to cool temperate areas of USA,
Europe and Asia. Shade Champ was developed from Swedish
European species. Exceptional cold tolerance / Exhibits winter
dormancy and Persists in full sun / Exhibits excellent growth in
dense shade. Ideal choice for damp, shaded areas / Not well suited
for hot, dry areas.
Good wear tolerance once established.
Excelling for mixing at 5-10% rate with most
cool season grasses including Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial
Ryegrass, Fine and Tall Fescues.
PLANT 2-3 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft.
- Early fall / spring seeding is best. Late spring /
summer plantings is not recommended in most locations.
- Seedbed should be kept moist during germination and early
establishment.
- Germinates in 14-21 days with optimal soil temperatures,
55-75 degrees F.
- Full coverage in 8-10 weeks
- First mowing recommended when it reaches 2" height.
- Recommended mowing height of 1.5 to 3 inches. For
shaded situations 3 inches is best.
- For naturalized situations, may be left un-mowed.
- Plant early fall / spring -- Avoid late spring / summer
planting.
